How long have you been working with dlivrd?
Since June of 2021.
What does your journey into the gig economy/dlivrd look like?
My background is very driving-based. I had a CDL (commercial driver’s license) and I’ve done every driving gig you can imagine, including ride-sharing. I tried on-demand delivery apps and a number of different gigs. Ultimately, I felt like I was just another driver competing with others and the compensation wasn’t the greatest.
I brought this together with my additional catering experience. My dad’s brother owns a catering company and my first years of employment were working with my uncle and helping him run his business. dlivrd is a great fit for me! I prefer handling catering orders that are assigned the day before rather than smaller orders on-the-fly. The high-quality earning opportunities that came with dlivrd was very enticing as well.
As for dealing with the Houston market, it can be very challenging but equally-fun. With how our traffic, city layout, and how spread out things are, it could be rough. I really enjoy the people I meet though! That makes up for it.
The Emerald Elite program is a gem (pun intended!) for the fact that it gives drivers something to work toward, and it allows for additional recognition and rewards. I personally see the difference in earning potential for dlivrd compared to other similar apps. I really love spreading the word about the benefits of Emerald Elite, not only to other drivers, but restaurant managers, customers, and getting information out there about dlivrd as a whole.
What advice would you give to new Earning Partners?
Consistency is key, especially if this is your first time working in the catering or delivery industry. Make sure you have a good set-up and take good pictures in line with what the client is expecting. Going the extra mile to build relationships not just with customers, but with the restaurant managers at restaurants you might frequent. It’s also important to form good relationships with the dlivrd team, take the time and talk through things! Consistency with communication is important. Volume may fluctuate as the seasons change, so stick it out and stay loyal and consistent and dlivrd will reward you in due time,
Do you have a favorite dish from a restaurant you’ve completed a catering delivery for?
I was dying to try Velvet Taco and finally had the chance to try it. I’ve passed by Del Frisco’s. It always looked good and very elegant! The closest one is in the Galleria and I’ve done a few orders over there.
Fun fact you’d like to share about yourself?
Out of all my driving experiences as a CDL holder, I’ve truly had the best experience with dlivrd! I love the fact that I earn good money and am home every night with my kids!
